What is T-BOSIET?

T-BOSIET stands for Tropical Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training. It is an internationally recognised training developed by OPITO for personnel working in offshore locations within tropical climates.

This course prepares workers to handle emergency situations such as helicopter evacuation, fire, sea survival, first aid and self-rescue tailored to the specific environmental challenges of tropical regions like Malaysia.


Who Needs to Take T-BOSIET?

You need to attend T-BOSIET if:

    • You’re new to working offshore

    • You haven’t worked offshore in the past 4 years

    • Your previous T-BOSIET or BOSIET certificate has expired

If you renew your certification, you may be eligible for T-FOET (Tropical Further Offshore Emergency Training), a 1-day refresher course.


T-BOSIET Malaysia: Course Structure

T-BOSIET includes four main modules:

    1. Safety Induction

    1. Helicopter Safety & Escape (HUET)

    1. Sea Survival and First Aid

    1. Firefighting & Self-Rescue

You will practice realistic scenarios in a controlled, supervised environment. Don’t worry, you don’t need to be a strong swimmer or know how to swim to complete the training.

In each training session, instructors and divers will be close by to ensure your safety during training and to ensure you understand the action that needs to be taken in case of emergency!


Duration of T-BOSIET

The standard T-BOSIET course lasts 3 days.


Certificate Validity

T-BOSIET is valid for 4 years from the date of issue.

T-BOSIET Course Fees in Malaysia

Fees may vary by provider and course variation, but on average:

    • T-BOSIET (Standard): RM1,800 – RM2,200

    • T-BOSIET with CA-EBS and TSBB: RM2,000 – RM3,000

There’s a different variant of T-BOSIET depending on the regulation of the country where you are working. If you are going to work in Malaysia, you need to have OPITO T-BOSIET with CA-EBS and TSBB.

Once you complete the training with Falcon Safety Services, you will receive four plus one certificates, that is:

    • OPITO T-BOSIET
    • OPITO T-BOSIET + TSBB
    • OPITO T-BOSIET + CAEBS
    • Cert By Training Centre (FALCON)
    • PTB Cert

Variations of T-BOSIET

What If My T-BOSIET Is Expiring?

If your certificate is still valid, register for T-FOET, a 1-day refresher.

If your certificate has expired, you must retake the full T-BOSIET course (3 days).


T-BOSIET vs BOSIET: What’s the Difference?

Can I Take T-FOET If I Have BOSIET?

Yes. Whether you have a T-BOSIET or BOSIET certificate, you can renew it with either T-FOET or FOET depending on your working region.


Is CA-EBS Mandatory in Malaysia?

Yes, since July 2022, the Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System (CA-EBS) is compulsory for offshore workers in Malaysian waters.


Do I Need to Know How to Swim?

No. You don’t need to be a strong swimmer. Safety divers and life jackets are provided during all water-based exercises. The focus is on survival techniques, not swimming.

The purpose of the training is to train you not to panic and ready to save yourself in the case of emergency.

Do I Need to Bring PPE?

Not necessary. PPE, towels, and training materials are provided at Falcon Safety Service Centre. Just bring a spare set of clothes to change into after the water activity.


Medical Requirements

You must be physically and mentally fit to complete the training.

Before practical sessions, training centres will:

    • Check for a valid offshore medical certificate, or

    • Conduct a medical screening form review

No full medical check-up is required unless stated otherwise.
