A Cost-Effective Solution for Australian, Thai, and Global Delegates
If you are planning to work offshore in the Asia-Pacific regionβwhether you are based in Perth, Bangkok, or Kuala Lumpurβholding a valid OPITO safety qualification is non-negotiable.
For professionals working in tropical waters, the OPITO BOSIET and T-BOSIET (Tropical Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training) is the industry standard.
Malaysia has become the preferred training hub for international delegates from Australia and Thailand due to world-class facilities, English-speaking instructors, and significantly lower costs compared to other regions.
Here is everything you need to know about getting certified in Malaysia with Falcon Safety Services.
β What is T-BOSIET?
T-BOSIET stands for Tropical Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training.
It is an internationally recognized standard developed by OPITO for personnel working in the offshore oil and gas industry within tropical climate zones.
Unlike the standard cold-water BOSIET (common in the North Sea), T-BOSIET is tailored for warm water environments. It prepares you for:
- Helicopter ditching and evacuation.
- Sea survival in warm waters.
- Firefighting and self-rescue.
- First aid.
βοΈ Why Delegates from Australia & Thailand Choose Malaysia
If you are currently in Australia or Thailand, flying to Malaysia for your T-BOSIET is a smart career move.
π¦πΊ For Australian Delegates: Massive Cost Savings
Training costs in Australia can be incredibly high. By flying to Malaysia, you benefit from the favorable currency exchange rate. Even with flights and accommodation included, the total cost often remains lower than taking the course domestically in Australia. The OPITO certification issued in Malaysia is globally recognized.
πΉπ For Thai Delegates: Proximity & Standards
Malaysia is a short flight away. Training here ensures you receive English-medium instruction (crucial for international contracts) while adhering to the strict OPITO standards required by major operators in the Gulf of Thailand and beyond.
π Course Structure & Content
The T-BOSIET course at Falcon Safety Services is rigorous, practical, and designed for safety.
The 4 Core Modules:
- Safety Induction: Understanding offshore hazards and management.
- Helicopter Safety & Escape (HUET): Practical exercises in a simulator, including underwater escape.
- Sea Survival and First Aid: In-water survival techniques and emergency medical care.
- Firefighting & Self-Rescue: Handheld extinguisher use and escaping visibility-obscured environments.
Note: You will practice realistic scenarios in a controlled, supervised environment. Instructors and divers are always close by to ensure your safety.
β± Duration and Validity
- Duration: 3 Days (Standard Course)
- Validity: 4 Years
- Refresher: If your certificate is expiring but hasn’t passed the date yet, you can take the T-FOET (1-Day Refresher) instead of the full 3-day course.
π° BOSIET and T-BOSIET Course Fees in Malaysia
Comparison: Training in Malaysia is significantly more affordable than in Australia, Europe, or the Americas.

π Frequently Asked Questions
1. Do I need to know how to swim?
No. You do not need to be a strong swimmer. You will be provided with life jackets and safety divers are present at all times. The goal is to teach you survival techniques, not swimming strokes.
2. Is CA-EBS mandatory?
Yes, if you are working in Malaysian waters. Since July 2022, CA-EBS is compulsory. We recommend the full package to ensure you are deployable anywhere.
3. T-BOSIET vs. BOSIET: What is the difference?
- T-BOSIET: For Tropical waters (Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore).
- BOSIET: For All climates (including cold water/North Sea).
- If you work exclusively in Asia/Tropical regions, T-BOSIET is sufficient.
4. What do I need to bring?
Just your personal items and a change of clothes for water activities. We provide all PPE, towels, and training materials.
5. Medical Requirements?
You need a valid Offshore Medical Certificate OR you must pass a medical screening form review at the center.
